Montana, Here We Come

Lochsa Lodge (Lolo National Forest), ID to Missoula, MT
57 Miles
294 Miles this Week

We left the Lochsa Lodge early this morning as we knew we would start our day with a 13 mile climb up to the Lolo Pass.  The first 7 miles were a fairly easy grade while the last 6 were between 5% and 8%.  I rode with Nancy and we took it fairly easy and slowly but surely we made our way up the mountain.

The Vista was Beautiful
But the Photo Does not Capture the Grade

However the Sign Below Gives You an Idea

It goes without saying the scenery was beautiful although I couldn't stop to take many photos so I just enjoyed the view and used my GoPro camera to take some videos.  Once we reached the top we were in Montana, our fourth state.

After the 3 Mile Harrowing Descent a Gentle Downhill to Missoula -

Tonight we enjoyed the city of Missoula and surprisingly tomorrow is the 6000 runner Missoula Marathon.  Would have been a plan for Rachel to do this marathon as I dont think she's done Montana, but who knew we'd be here marathon weekend.

Surrounded by mountains Missoula is a bike friendly community and signs of that were evident throughout the city.  There are many bike stores in town but most are closed for a good part of Sunday as everyone heads to the hills to go biking.  Loved the public bike parking on the main shopping street.

  1. I know! That would have been perfect! Why didn't I think of looking at your itinerary for marathons in advance???

    Enjoy the cheering!

  2. We were focused on thinking of where to meet up for biking, didnt even think of marathon quest. Guess we have to do another trip like this in the future in a different part of the country.
